Looking Back

We reflect on a fantastic 2024 edition of the Politicologenetmaal (Annual Political Science Workshops of the Low Countries) held on June 13-14, 2024, at Maastricht University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS). Hosted by Iskander De Bruycker, Soetkin Verhaegen, and Christine Arnold, over 200 scholars gathered for 15 workshops covering a wide range of topics. This edition was notably diverse, with participants from more than 40 universities across 12 different countries. The workshop chairs worked diligently to organize fascinating and topical workshops and facilitate state-of-the-art, in-depth discussions in their sessions. New to this year's edition was an informal and festive food truck festival and a party in the FASoS campus garden. Take a look at the pictures to get an impression of the event. We organized a captivating roundtable discussion on the results of the European Parliament elections. Our distinguished speakers, Prof. Dr. Theresa Kuhn, Prof. Dr. Ben Crum, and Didrik de Schaetzen, shared their insights, and the discussion was expertly moderated by Dr. Christine Arnold.

Famke Veenstra and Richard Embrechts were awarded the 2023 Daniël Heinsius Master's Thesis Prize. The 2023 Els de Witte PhD Prize went to Dr. Imogen T. Liu and Dr. Emma Turkenburg. Congratulations to all!

The 2026 Politicologenetmaal will be hosted by Ghent University. The conference is organized in collaboration with the Flemish Vereniging voor Politieke Wetenschappen (VPW) and the Dutch Nederlandse Kring voor de Wetenschap der Politiek (NKPW).
